Have you ever wondered, “how do companies use social media?” If so, take a look at the brief checklists below! They will give you a great place to start for using three of the major social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Follow these tips and you could become a social media pro in no time!

Facebook 

  • Post at least 1 update daily. (Tip: Make it VALUABLE!)
    • Switch up the kind of information you post! Vary between the following:
      • Pictures
      • Industry information
      • Your blog and website content
      • Jokes
      • Questions
  • Link about 25% of your posts back to your blog or website.
  • Share other companies’ relevant posts to your page.
  • Monitor and respond to any comments and questions on your page. By actively engaging and responding to comments and questions, you will start to build relationships with current and potential customers. This is a great way to build trust, as well as make your business seem very approachable and personable.

Twitter

  • Try and post at least 3 Tweets every day. (Tip: The life span of a Tweet is very short, so you could potentially send out up to 7 Tweets per day!)
    • Keep Tweets interesting! Vary between the following:
      • Pictures
      • Industry information
      • Your blog and website content
      • Jokes
      • Questions
  • Link about 25% of your Tweets back to your blog or website.
  • Retweet at least 3 tweets that would offer value for your followers.
  • Follow at least 5 other Twitter accounts daily.
    • You could follow other:
      • People who send out valuable information related to your industry
      • Brands in your industry
      • News accounts related to your industry
      • People who work in jobs that can benefit from using your product or service
  • Monitor the conversations happening around your industry.
  • Search for Hashtags of keywords and phrases in your industry. 

LinkedIn

  • Post 1 valuable update every day.
    • Provide variety, but keep it professional. Vary between the following:
      • Pictures
      • Industry information
      • Your blog and website content
      • Questions
  • Link about 25% of your posts back to your blog or website.
  • Connect with at least 5 new people.
    • Find the right people to connect to by:
      • Performing a search for people on LinkedIn
      • Looking at people in your groups
  • Join new groups related to your industry.
  • Start discussions in a few groups, and occasionally link back to your blog or website.

If you can follow these guidelines every day for all three of these social networks, that's great! If that's just too much for you to keep up with at this time, try and focus on posting for at least one of your social media accounts, and go through the checklist of things to do each day to keep engagement up and grow your fan base for that particular platform. It’s more important and will be more beneficial for your business to be highly involved in one social network, opposed to posting seldomly for all of your social networks, not keeping up with them daily.
