A social media consultant is someone that manages or social medai or helps you train your staff. Most search engines don’t even list social media. They would describe it as a media Consultant. Which is a marketing agent or public relations executive, hired by businesses or political candidates to obtain positive press coverage. Media Consultants usually draft press releases to highlight positive achievements of a business, organization, or individual. In politics, Media consultants create ad campaigns designed to plant a desired image in the minds of voters.It is also used to describe a person or company that enables media organizations develop their businesses.

Nowadays, social media guru’s are popping up left and right. There are still more bankers, accouantrs, realors and lawyers but as a group we are making a wave.  The challenge for many companies is figuring out what this means and how to measure success.

In this global mobile revolution, they’re more knowledgable than most people in social media. So it is easy to establish themselves as professionals. However, there is no offfical training or certification needed to call yourself an expert.  This doesn’t mean they can’t help you but everyones training and success is still new.

To start, a social media consultant must have an in-depth knowledge of the different services, how to use them effectively, and other tools that make doing social media more productive and efficient.

A social media consultant should also have a solid background in marketing and sales. They will be representing your company online. This is a key part in making social media work well. The reality is services such as Twitter and Facebook are just tools to distribute stories in new and different ways. You need to be able to reach them so there isn’t a huge gap with your service/product and their message.

A good social media consultant should be able to explain what they are doing, why and give you an idea of the results you should expect.
